North Korea Reacts to US Sanctions
In an official statement, Kim Un Chol, North Korea’s vice foreign minister responsible for US affairs, described the latest sanctions as the fifth such action since the current US administration assumed power, as reported by a state-run news agency.
"The U.S. has fully betrayed again its wicked nature to be hostile towards the DPRK till the end," Kim stated, referring to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, North Korea’s formal designation.
He cautioned that Washington should not expect its approach, which relies on "pressure, appeasement, threat and blackmail," to succeed in dealing with the DPRK at any point.
The announcement followed the US Treasury Department’s declaration on Tuesday of sanctions targeting eight individuals and two organizations for allegedly laundering proceeds from "illicit schemes" orchestrated by North Korea, including cybercrime and exploitation of overseas IT workers.
Nevertheless, Kim insisted that these measures would not influence North Korea’s stance or tactics toward the United States.
"The U.S. needs to pay attention to the fact that there is no possibility for it to change the present strategic situation between the DPRK and the U.S. in its favor, no matter how desperately it may mobilize all its sanctions," he emphasized.
